Fire Retardant Workwear and Fire Resistant Clothing
Fire retardant workwear is an absolutely essential component for many industries in the UK. Where safety regulations exist, the majority of fire retardant work wear is mandatory and typically must conform to EN531 which is a Europen Standard for safety clothing for the protection of employees against heat and flames. Essentially, the fire retardant clothing should not burn or form a hole when exposed to heat but there are additional requirements in place. For example, any metallic bits on the garment should be covered to prevent molten metal from sticking. The bottom of the trouser legs should be long enough to cover the tops of the shoes to provide a full fire retardant coverage. The shoes should also be fire retardant as well! Pockets must have covers which is an essential part if working in an environment where sparks occur because they could easily fly into any open pockets causing burns.
The legislation also covers areas at risk and imposes strict criteria on the fire proof clothing to be reinforced in risk areas between the legs and around the neck and shoulders. The garments are also tested against splashes from molten metals used in many industries such as aluminium and iron. Fire resistant clothing is therefore a very specialist area and there are few manufacturers with the required safety certificates for the clothing. We really try to stock the fireproof clothing that we feel offers the best value for money given a high quality garment that complies with safety requirements.
